2018 Jeep Compass vs 2018 Kia Sportage near Aberdeen, MD

Finding the perfect family vehicle that can do it all doesn't have to be stressful, even if you're looking in a segment like the compact crossover SUV segment which has amazing options for you to choose from. We have chosen the best two vehicles from that segment, the 2018 Jeep Compass, and the 2018 Kia Sportage. These options both have their strengths that do make it difficult to choose which one is better, but by breaking them down we are going to tell you which one comes out on top. To start, the Jeep Compass was completely redesigned in the previous model year, which means that in 2018, not many changes were necessary. The Kia Sportage, on the other hand, has a lot of changes to the 2018 model year. Some of those changes include more optional equipment, stain-resistant cloth upholstery, a new EX Sport Appearance package, and the EX trim comes with blind-spot monitoring. If you want to find out which of these impressive SUVs is crowned the winner, then continue reading down below to find out more!

2018 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

If you are looking for power with your SUV, then look no further than the 2018 Compass. This vehicle comes standard with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that can produce up to 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. Another perk of this engine is that not only does it come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but if you step up one more trim level, you'll be getting at least a six-speed automatic transmission. You might also get a nine-speed automatic transmission if you decide that you don't want front-wheel drive, and instead opt for four-wheel drive. Towing is no problem for the 2018 Compass, as you can tow up to 2,000 pounds with four-wheel drive.

2018 Kia Sportage Power & Handling

There are two engines that are offered with the Sportage. To start, it's important to note that the Sportage does not come with four-wheel drive as an option. Instead, you can only get front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, which isn't as impressive off-roading. The first engine is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, which creates 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. The other engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, which generates 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. There is only one drivetrain option, a six-speed automatic transmission. The towing capacity doesn't go beyond the Compass, even with another engine available. You can still tow up to 2,000 pounds.

2018 Jeep Compass Features & Design

Along with the powerful standard engine, the Compass comes with 4 trim level options. The first of these is the Compass Sport. This option gives you 16-inch wheels, five-inch touchscreen display, a Uconnect system, a 6-speaker sound system, air-conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB port. If you want a trim that is perfect for off-roading, although the other trims aren't too shabby with off-roading either, then you want the Compass Trailhawk. This option gives you a raised suspension, 17-inch wheels with tires that are off-road oriented, a Selec-Terrain system for rocky surfaces and steep climbs, a matte-black hood accent, red tow hooks in both the front and the rear, and a unique front fascia. Furthermore, in order to protect the underbody, there are a hidden set of protection shields. The most luxurious option offered is the Compass Limited. This trim gives you an 8.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, automatic dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, remote start, an upgraded driver information display, satellite radio, heated front seats, and an upgraded exterior trim.

2018 Kia Sportage Features & Design

Only 3 trim levels options are available with the 2018 Kia Sportage. The first of these is the Sportage LX. This trim gives you one USB port, a CD player, a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio, Bluetooth, a 5-inch touchscreen display, a rearview camera, a 60/40-split folding and reclining back seat, a height-adjustable driver seat, driver-selectable driving modes, rear privacy glass, automatic headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. A package is available to give you features like dual-zone automatic climate control and Apple CarPlay. The middle option is the Sportage EX, offering a rear USB charging port, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, keyless ignition and entry, upgraded exterior and interior trim, heated mirrors, fog lights, and 18-inch wheels. The highest option is the Sportage SX, which offers a larger gauge display, 19-inch wheels, the flat-bottom steering wheel, xenon headlights, special exterior trim, and a sport-tuned suspension. More features can be added, but only through additional packages.

Conclusions

The Jeep Compass is the SUV that can do it all and has it all. Even with one standard engine, that engine boasts the same amount of towing capabilities as the two options you get with the Sportage. The Compass also comes with four trim options, while the Sportage is only available in three. This simply means that there is no better compact crossover SUV to add to your family and make your life easier. Contact us today to learn more information about the Compass!
