Nothing is more American than the pick-up truck. It's everywhere in Northeastern Maryland - from commuting to work in Aberdeen, to driving the local streets of Havre de Grace, and even cruising around Joppatowne on weekends. The 2019 model year sees every major pick-up truck getting a redesign. None of them are as significant as the 2019 RAM 1500, which continues to demonstrate why it is the perfect pick-up truck for a driver that is looking for a combination of style, substance, and uniqueness.

What Kind of Engine Does the 2019 Ram 1500 Have?
Having a selection of engines available that lets a buyer choose between power, efficiency, and the right combination of the two is a hallmark of the 2019 RAM 1500.

The base 3.6-liter PentaStar V6 engine with eTorque, offers plenty of power with excellent fuel economy. With 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, this means there is no pause when you need to get moving, like getting up to speed merging on to 95 from Edgewood. Paired with the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, it also offers up to 20 MPG around town and 25 MPG on the open road with front-wheel drive. Opting for four-wheel drive to tackle the ugly winter roads in Aberdeen will only cost a little, dropping to 19 MPG city and 24 MPG highway. This efficiency comes thanks to the eTorque mild hybrid system that replaces the alternator with a belt-driven motor, which also helps to improve payload and towing capabilities.

Step up to the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 for a power upgrade that will let you cruise comfortably on the highways and burst off the line. The 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque offers power for speed as well as power for hauling. At the same time, 15 MPG city and 22 MPG highway with two-wheel drive is solid for a pick-up truck. Going with the four-wheel drive only drops the highway economy, down to 21 MPG.

Pairing the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 with the eTorque system offers the best of both worlds. While the power numbers stay the same, fuel economy gets a helping hand. Adding in the eTorque system brings the rating up to 17 MPG around Abingdon and 23 MPG on the highway with front-wheel drive, or 17 MPG city and 22 MPG highway with four-wheel drive. This is best-in-class fuel economy for a V8 engine.

How Much Can the 2019 Ram 1500 Tow?
While power and fuel economy are a great thing to have, what matters in a good pick-up is what it can do with these features. The 2019 RAM 1500 is flexible and powerful, able to help you move what needs to be moved, and haul pretty much anything you can fit in its bed.
With the 3.6-liter engine, you can haul up to 2,300 pounds worth of cargo in the bed, while towing up to 7,730 pounds behind you. That's plenty enough to tow a boat down to the Susquehanna, or a travel trailer to your campsite. That 2,300 pounds of carrying capability means that hauling wood or hay will be a breeze as well.

Sometimes you need more. Maybe you've got some prize livestock to take to the Farm Fair in Bel Air, or you've got one of the top-end travel trailers for cross-country camping trips. In that case, you want the HEMI and its ability to tow up to 11,610 pounds. At the same time, it tops out at 1,970 pounds of payload capacity, so it won't cut down on hauling too much.

The eTorque system helps the 2019 RAM 1500 to maximize potential, as the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 with eTorque can trailer a class-leading 12,750 pounds, a number that challenges even some medium- and heavy-duty trucks. It can also haul up to 1,830 pounds.

How Much Space Is Inside the 2019 Ram 1500?
A good pick-up truck needs to consider the driver and passengers as well. Sure, there's a place in the world for work trucks with minimal technology, but everyone needs space. With the 2019 RAM 1500, you get the choice of a Quad Cab or Crew Cab, both of which carry up to six passengers, if equipped with a front bench seat.

Those six passengers will have plenty of space, even if they are wearing heavy winter jackets. Up front, there is 40.9 inches of leg room and 40.9 inches of head room in both cabs. In the rear seat, the Quad Cab offers 39.2 inches of head room and 35.6 inches of leg room. That's enough for the average adult to be comfortable for short and mid-range trips, like driving from Abingdon to Edgewood. If you're making a lot of long-distance trips, or just want extra room for your friends and family, the rear seat of the Crew Cab provides 39.8 inches of head room and a whopping 45.2 inches of leg room. That's enough for cross-country trips.

What are the Bed Options for the 2019 Ram 1500?
The bed makes the truck in many cases. What you do with the cargo area determines how useful the truck is to the customer - and the 2019 RAM 1500 is certainly useful. The long bed measures in at 76.3 inches in length and is standard with the Quad Cab. The shorter bed measures in at 67.4 inches in length and is available on the Crew Cab only. Cargo box illumination is standard, so you can see what you're loading in the dark, while bed rail caps add a little protection for the rails.

Optional features make it even easier to handle loads. The intelligent RamBox® system, available with the shorter bed, adds weatherproof, lockable and drainable storage bins into the sides of the bed. These storage bins feature interior lighting, as well as a 115-volt power outlet, for tons of flexibility. The available bed divider helps you keep cargo from shifting and moving in transit. The retractable Mopar Bed Step makes it easier to get in there and move cargo around, while the available tonneau cover is perfect for covering up what you are hauling. The available spray-in bed liner protects the bed from tools and equipment impact.

What Trims Are Offerred in the 2019 Ram 1500?
Six trim levels and plenty of appearance packages make the 2019 RAM 1500 one of the most customizable trucks on the market. There are so many different trucks and trim levels, and here at Thompson Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Harford County we bring you the biggest selection in the area.

Tradesman-The Tradesman trim is the basic work truck, featuring heavy-duty black trim and bumpers outside and vinyl upholstery inside. Four-way manually-adjustable front seats and vinyl floor coverings join with durable plastic trim to make a cab that can withstand heavy use, even from children or pets. The Uconnect 3 infotainment system with two front USB ports and a middle charging-only USB port connects to a six-speaker sound system with standard Bluetooth hands-free phone and streaming audio.

Big Horn-The Big Horn is where you want to start if you're looking for a commuter truck or a family vehicle. Seating and floor covering are upgraded to premium cloth all around, while door panels are upgraded to premium vinyl. The leather-wrapped steering wheel and metal patina finish on the center stack and doors show that this isn't your standard work truck. Outside, chrome trim is used, including as the surround for the grille and for the door handle inserts. 18-inch aluminum wheels add some shine as well.

Rebel-Featuring unique Rebel interior trim with black and red Rebel colors, the off-road capable Rebel trim stands out from the line-up. Some of this is thanks to the aggressive appearance that comes from the unique black-surround grille, sport-performance hood, black wheel flares, and a unique RAM scripted aluminum tailgate. With the HEMI V8 engines, it also gets menacing black dual exhausts. With a raised ride height, electronic shift-on-the-fly part-time transfer case, Bilstein® off-road shocks, electronic locking rear axle, Hill Descent Control, and skid plates across the undercarriage, the Rebel also stands out with its go-anywhere abilities.

Laramie-Offering a great combination of comfort and value, the Laramie trim is smart luxury. Leather-trimmed seating features heated and ventilated front seats that help you to deal with the rapidly-changing Northern Maryland weather. Paired with dual-zone automatic temperature control and Remote Start, you can have the Laramie warmed up and waiting even in the coldest Harford County winters. The Uconnect 4 with 8.4-inch display is standard, paired with an upgraded 10-speaker premium audio system and SiriusXM satellite capabilities. It also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring compatibility, for intuitive interaction.

Laramie Longhorn-One of two top-of-the-line trims, the Laramie Longhorn includes all the features of the Laramie as well as a few added luxury touches. Warm brown leather upholstery features the Longhorn logo, and front and rear seats are all heated. They are surrounded by warm Longhorn-specific premium leather and wood interior treatment, and the steering wheel features real wood and leather wrapping. Premium rubber slush mats with removable carpet inserts makes it easy to keep the interior in good shape, while the Uconnect 4C NAV with 8.4-inch display provides the ultimate in information and entertainment. The exterior features a unique bright-surround/billet grille, chrome tow hooks, chrome side steps, 20-inch aluminum wheels, and Longhorn badges. A power-release tailgate makes it easier to load and unload, while ParkSense Front and Rear Park Assist can make it a breeze to get into tight Havre de Grace parking spaces.

Limited-The Limited trim takes the Laramie Longhorn trim and adds an upscale urban spin on it. The brown, laser-etched seats of the Laramie Longhorn are swapped out for luxurious black premium leather seats. Limited-specific premium leather and wood interior treatment is used throughout the cabin. The Uconnect 4C NAV with 12-inch display is standard, as is Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path and Trailer Detection. Power running boards raise and lower to make getting in and out easier while retaining a sleek profile. A chrome-surrounded Limited specific grille, chrome body-side molding, Limited badges, and 20-inch cast-aluminum wheels with premium painted inserts gives the Limited trim a massive presence anywhere you roam in Aberdeen.

What Appearance Packages are Available for the Ram 1500?
Numerous appearance packages are offered, including the Chrome package for the Tradesman, the Sport and Black packages for the Big Horn, and the Black, Chrome, and Sport packages for the Laramie. The Rebel gets a model-specific Monotone Paint available package, removing the dark lower body cladding, while the Laramie Longhorn can have the Two-Tone Paint package added, covering the lower body, front and rear bumpers, wheel flares, running boards, and wheel inserts in Walnut Brown. Functional packages include the Trailer-Tow and Max Towing packages, as well as the Protection Group that adds reinforced coverings for handling rough sites. The 4x4 Off-Road Group adds off-road calibrated shocks, 18- or 20-inch OWL All-Terrain tires, and skid plates so you can get onto the trails outside of Havre de Grace and Joppatowne with ease.
