The 1960s was a period of tie-dye clothing, long hair, and lava lamps. When people jetted off to music festivals to hear The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, they rounded up their friends and piled into their wood-paneled station wagons. Just like how bell bottoms and flower crowns are making a big comeback, so is one of the most notable station wagons: Jeep Wagoneer.

Currently, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is just a concept vehicle, but it has many features to be excited about. The team at Thompson Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of Harford County wants to show our Edgewood, Bel Air, and Aberdeen, MD, friends what you can expect to find in this SUV when it ultimately hits the market.1

The History of the Wagoneer

In the 1940s, the call went out for a rugged and capable SUV to help out the American troops during World War II-and Jeep answered. Their vehicles were crafted specifically to handle whatever the war could throw their way, making them supreme off-road warriors.

At the close of war, Jeep decided there was a need for these commanding vehicles for adventurous spirits. So, in 1945, they began taking their SUVs to the civilian market. Soon after, the Willys Jeep Station Wagon made its debut, delighting families across the United States. In 1962, Jeep expanded upon the station wagon design and brought the Jeep Wagoneer to life.

This vehicle stayed in production for nearly three decades and was known for melding luxury with a robust 4-wheel drive system. In 1991, the era of the station wagon began to dwindle and with it the Jeep Wagoneer's popularity. The 21st century is the dawning of a new era, and the Jeep Wagoneer is making a major comeback.

The Redesigned and Reimagined Grand Wagoneer

Just as before, the Grand Wagoneer will be a unique blend of luxury and capability. Classic and updated styling can be found both inside and out of this SUV, combined with the off-road performance you know and love from a Jeep ride.

Premium Styling

Departing from its station wagon body, the Grand Wagoneer concept vehicle takes a boxy stance with a sleek, clean grille. A standout from all angles-even from above-this SUV is outfitted with a full-length single-pane glass roof. Not only does this minimalistic feature delight the eyes, but it offers breathtaking views of the sky above, as well.

It also lets plenty of natural sunlight into your cabin to bathe the luxurious materials and features in natural light. The inside of the Grand Wagoneer is styled with hand and heat-treated blackened lace-wood with raw accent edging and authentic dual-texture metal framing for a unique design sure to delight the eyes.

Built to Bring You Off the Beaten Path

Of course, no Jeep is complete without rugged off-road capabilities, so the Grand Wagoner should also feature the following:

  • Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System with five drive modes
  • Quadra-Drive® II 4x4 system with active 2-speed transfer case
  • Quadra-Lift® Air suspension

When Will the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Be Available?

Now that you've seen what this concept vehicle has to offer, you may be curious when you can get behind the wheel. Our team at Thompson Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of Harford County believes the Jeep Grand Wagoneer should be released for the 2022 model year, with the SUV becoming available in late 2021.

Curious drivers from Edgewood, Bel Air, and Aberdeen, Maryland, can stay up to date on any releases or updates of this vehicle at our dealership.
